Erin

It is with great sadness that I inform you CBI’s first arson K-9, Erin lost her battle last night with cancer. Erin came to CBI in 2000 and retired in May of 2007. Erin and Jerry responded to over 800 calls that resulted in over 150 arson arrests. She did over 500 demonstrations at schools, seminars, colleges, civic groups, scout troops and other events.

Erin’s favorite thing to do was to ride in the truck where she logged 270,000 miles with Jerry. Erin was the happiest when she knew she was at a fire scene. She was recognized numerous times for the cases she had worked. They included; the Nichols triple homicide in Colorado Springs, the Castle West apartment fire, the Jefferson County puppy fire, the Glendale apartment fire and the Habitat for Humanity serial arson fires in Greeley – to name a few.

Erin was featured in national magazines: Dog and Kennel, Just Labs, The Fence Post, Parade. Erin was designated as a national poster dog for arson prevention and is one of three with her picture included in the nation campaign against arson. The National Fire Dog Monument in Washington D.C. is modeled after Erin and will serve as a living memory to Erin. Erin was our very own “self-appointed moral officer.”

Anyone who would like to donate in Erin’s memory can make checks payable to; The National Fire Dog Monument, 5862 West 114^th Place, Westminster Colorado, 80020. The monument honors all fire K-9’s and will be placed at fire station #3 (the Capitol fire station) in Washington D.C. when it is completed. Our thanks to everyone who kept Erin and Jerry in their thoughts during this time and provided support. Erin will always remain a cornerstone of CBI and will be fondly remembered for all she gave to CBI and the citizens of the State of Colorado with her crime fighting efforts.
